External Interface Files XIF

This article describes the different versions of the WattNode^® for LonWorks^® meter and which XIF file should be used for each version.

The Device Interface File (also called External Interface File) is the primary file used by LonWorks applications for installing WattNode meters. It lists all SNVTs in the WattNode. There have been several versions of the XIF file format over the years. Since 2008, we have been releasing XIF files that use XIF file format version 4.40. This may not work with LNS version 3.00 (see LNS 3.00 XIF Bug), so you may need to apply an LNS service pack in this case.

Identifying Your WattNode Meter

In order to select the correct XIF file, you must know which version of the WattNode meter you are using. You can identify your meter from the tables below.

• Series: the series appears at the beginning of the model number on the front label.
• Transceiver: the transceiver appears at or near the end of the model number on the front label.
• Production Date: the production or manufacture date appears on the front label on newer models and on the back label on older models.
• Firmware Version: the firmware version appears on the front label on newer models and on the back label on older models.
• Program ID: the program ID can be determined with LonWorks network management tools, generally in response to pressing the service pin (button).

Note: If you or someone else has performed a field firmware upgrade, then the firmware version printed on the WattNode front label could be out-of-date. In this case, the manufacture date might also be misleading, because it would match the original firmware version, not the upgraded version. In most cases, firmware updates do not change the interface and do not require a new XIF file.

Current Versions

This table lists current production versions of the WattNode meter.

To download these files, right-click and choose “Save Target As” or “Save Link As”, then save the resulting file. Make sure the extension is “.xif” when saving.

Legacy Versions

The following versions are no longer in production. Some of these do not list XIF files and instead say “Upgrade firmware”; these models have known bugs and should be upgraded to a current firmware release.
